Tyla makes stunning CFDA Awards debut in a sexy Gucci dress

Tyla has been repping South Africa out there in every way possible. From the 2024 Victoria’s Secret show and now the CFDA in New York, where the stepped out in a drop-gorgeous Gucci mini-dress, not to mention the faultless Halloween look inspired by Halle Berry in 'The Flintstones', our beloved superstar has been serving looks at fashion’s biggest nights, and we're here for it.

Tyla has been repping South Africa out there, and we’re proud of what our superstar is doing, especially on the fashion scene. She stepped out in a drop-gorgeous Gucci mini-dress that turned heads at the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Fashion Awards in New York.

We must say that the Water hitmaker’s red carpet outfit at the American Museum of Natural History proves that she’s got the style to match her voice.

Tyla’s moment to wow at the 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards

The 22-year-old Grammy winner was among hundreds of A-list celebs, fashion personalities, and designers invited to the 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards. Of course, you know Tyla doesn’t do anything halfway. Our girl rocked up to the American Museum of Natural History on Monday night in a black lace Gucci dress that had everyone talking. For those who keep tabs on the fashion scene, this wasn’t just any itsy-bitsy dress – it was a special piece from Gucci’s 1996 collection, and trust us, it was worth digging out of the archives.

The see-through lace number dropped gracefully down to her navel to give her beautiful necklace a share of the attention and Paparazzi snapshots. A sexy cutout brought a little more eyeballs to her famous belly ring, but Tyla kept it fun and fresh by wearing bright green hot pants underneath.

The neon shorts were the talk of the red carpet. With the tiny dress, the outfit pulled off a perfect touch between sultry style and Tyla’s classic glamour. However, she kept her shoes simple with black strappy heels, letting that gorgeous dress do all the talking.

For some glam, the Johannesburg-born star’s beauty choices were equally on point. Her naturally curly hair was styled into a somewhat messy updo. Her makeup artist went for her classic bright blue eyeshadow that brought out the best of Tyla’s signature fresh-faced glow on the runway.

Not Tyla’s first time, fresh off Victoria Secret’s Fashion Show

This isn’t Tyla’s first time serving looks at fashion’s biggest nights. Just two weeks ago, she graced both the stage and red carpet at the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in New York City. She was in good company, smiling her way through gorgeous guests that included Carla Bruni, Tyra Banks, and Kate Moss.

The musician performed her hit song ‘Water‘ and ‘Push 2 Start‘ to a crowd that loved her on-stage outfit as much as her singing. Her angel-inspired getup sported a set of beautifully layered and intricate top and bottom. She finished off the ensemble with a matching garter.

But it wasn’t just about the performance look. Before the Victoria’s Secret show, Tyla stepped onto the pink carpet in a dress that had the photographers going wild. We’re talking about a pink gown that went on for days, dripping with beads and sexy cutouts that showed just enough skin to keep it spicy. The dress, complete with a flowing train, was paired with sparkling accessories and her signature tousled updo.

How to rock Tyla’s CFDA look

We know some of you can’t get enough of Tyla’s looks and would like to try this one. But putting together such a daring outfit is no easy walk in the park. After all, you may not have a huge wardrobe or an army of stylists at your beck and call like Tyla. Besides, our streets and weather may not be as forgiving as New York’s.

For a safer bet, swap out Tyla’s green hot pants for a comfy pair of bright leggings. For a comfortable and safe top, pair the lace mini-dress with a navy denim shirt. If you don’t wish to go out looking like an office girl or a stiff blackjack dealer at a high-end casino, finish off your outfit with a pair of your favourite sneakers.

Who else was at the CFDA Fashion Awards?

The fashion awards were packed with famous faces, all dressed to the nines. The host of the evening herself, Cynthia Erivo, went with a gothic look. She wore an Elphaba-inspired voluminous hooded dress from Zac Posen collection, complete with an elaborate headpiece.

Soul queen Erykah Badu showed everyone why she won the night’s big award. She lit the red carpet in a show-stopping black Thom Browne hourglass outfit. During the night, Miss Badu received the CFDA’s Fashion Icon award, joining the likes of Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Jeniffer Lopez, Beyonce, and Zendaya.

No fashion show could be complete without a Kardashian, and Kylie Jenner came through in a black dress covered in features. The number is Jean Paul Gaultier’s spring 2023 couture collection. Later on, host Cynthia Erivo surprised everyone by rocking a custom Gap dress (yes, that Gap!) with fancy Tiffany jewels.

There was a bevy of glam-loaded actresses, including Blake Lively in a figure-hugging Michael Kors creation. Like Erykah Badu, Addison Rae opted for a structured Thom Browne corset. The 24-year-old ‘Aquamarine‘ singer wore a mermaid-themed gown while clutching onto a seashell purse.

Looking glam in a gold Ralph Lauren number, South African-born model Nara Smith, accompanied by her husband Lucky Blue Smith, were among notable guests at the 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards.

Actress Katie Holmes opted for Carolina Herrera’s feminine elegance in a playful, colour-blocking piece. American socialite Paris Hilton showed off some leg skin in a red rose-embossed mini dress by Oscar de la Renta. Other notable appearances included model Nara Smith in Ralph Lauren, Da’Vine Joy Randolph in Wiederhoeft, Sabrina Dhowre Elba in Diotima, and Victoria Monét and LaQuan Smith in LaQuan Smith.

Wrapping up: What’s next for Tyla?

Tyla dropped her self-titled first album, Tyla+, last month, and if this fashion moment is anything to go by, she’s going to be serving looks alongside those hits. She’s out there repping SA with everything she’s got, and we’re here for every moment of it.
