A fun outing filled with challenging Disney games and classic entertainment, Disney+ enchants South Africa with Magical Quiz Night and promises more to come.

Disney+ Quiz Night turned up the fun factor last Thursday night (June 13) at Prison Break Market in Johannesburg.

The event brought together a slew of South Africa’s much-loved celebrities – in the likes of choreographer Bontle Modiselle, media personality Lasizwe Dambuza and actors Zamani Mbatha, Nefisa Mkhabela, Gaisang Noge, singer Cici Thwala, as well as social media personalities Moghelingz and Lasizwe Dambuza – and Disney fans for a night of fun trivia, laughter, and pure Disney magic.

Guests were welcomed with a special gift bag containing a Disney-themed jacket and a random table number corresponding with iconic Disney shows and movies. Eight eager participants filled each table, ready to test their knowledge on all things Disney.

The charismatic South African comedian and MC MC extraordinaire Mpho Popps kept the energy high throughout the evening with his fresh and unfiltered humour, sharing the stage with a skilled quizmaster for a series of exciting Disney+ themed challenges.

The event brought together a slew of South Africa’s much-loved celebrities, including entertainer Lasizwe Dambuza and his brother Lungile.

Celebrating Disney Storytelling and Engagement in Africa

Speaking to Samira Gerin-Singh, Senior Manager of Media & Integrated Marketing for The Walt Disney Company Africa, it became clear this was just the beginning of exciting things to come. “This is the first of many Quiz Nights to be held around South Africa,” she tells NOWinSA. The aim, she explained, is to “get more engagement from our Disney+ audience in Africa” and solidify its position as a premier storyteller on the continent.

A look at Disney’s history of storytelling in Africa

While this quiz night marks a new chapter in audience engagement, Disney has a long-standing commitment to African stories and creators.

Disney has co-produced several African films and TV shows, such as the award-winning ‘Queen of Katwe‘ and the animated series ‘Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire‘. These collaborations showcase the streamer’s commitment to not only amplifying African stories and talent on a global scale, but also establishing a stronger bond with local audiences.

This event has set, without a doubt, the stage for an exciting future for Disney+ in Africa, filled with interactive experiences, engaging storytelling, and a celebration of African creativity.
