The news were confirmed by Samsung South Africa in a statement sent to NOWinSA Tuesday.
Global sales of the Galaxy Z Flip opened last Thursday, February 21 and according to the tech giant, the South African performance “echoed the same sold out success seen in the United States of America, United Kingdom, South Korea and many other markets”.
The announcement comes as a surprise given that the South Korean smartphone maker is among the first to be hit hard by the spread of coronavirus, which is negatively affecting the tech industry worldwide.
Early this week, SamMobile reported that a Samsung plant in Gumi, South Korea, was temporarily closed down after a worker tried positive for the pneumonia-like disease.
As the spread of the coronavirus continues to pose a threat to both the supply chain and global competitiveness, President and CEO of Samsung South Africa, Sung Yoon, said the company is doing its best effort to minimise its impact on operations in South Africa, which is still coronavirus-free.
