Jan du Plessis, channel director for M-Net Channels attributes this major feat to the top quality of the past Survivor SA shows.
The series has not only established itself as a mainstay in the South African pop-culture, but has also proved popular outside Africa, as evidenced through this deal with 10 Play.
“It’s a tribute to the quality of our show that Survivor South Africa: Immunity Island has been picked up – with the commitment to stream it in line with the SA broadcasts,” says Du Plessis.
Creative producer and series director, Afrokaans Film & Television’s Leroux Botha simply credits the show’s increasing popularity to the carefully-chosen castaways, who are “always willing to push themselves beyond their limits over 39 days to outwit, outplay and outlast.”
The reality series, Botha adds, has gained international traction “on the back of its relatable characters, great storylines and excellent editing”.
‘Survivor South Africa: Immunity Island’ was filmed on the Wild Coast in the Eastern Cape, making it a first local setting for the local franchise – on the back of the COVID-19 global crisis.
Coming just over a year after the crowning of Robert “Rob” Bentele as the Sole Survivor for ‘Survivor SA‘ S7 in September 2019, the series will premiere on M-Net (DStv 101) on June 3 (Thursday) at 7.30pm.
