A South African-based production company behind the “Tourism in South Africa with Trevor Noah” campaign was ranked third in Best Videos in Tourism Destination Countries category at the 36th World Tourism Film Awards, held recently in Valencia, Spain.
Seriti TV, co-founded by South African filmmaker Thabang Moleya and AFDA alumna Leanne Kumalo, produced the ad, helmed by Tourism Business Council of South Africa. The first and second positions went to The Perfect Shot and Sweden (Not Switzerland) respectively — with the beloved local comedienne Nina Hastie as the creative director, and wrote the TVC in collaboration with the Emmy-award winning SA-born Tevor Noah.
The campaign also placed third in the Tourism Destination Country category. Organised by the international Committee of Tourism Film Festivals (CTFF) with support form UN Tourism, the awards attracted over 4,500 entries from 50 countries globally, with South Africa among the 29 honourarees for this year.
Having attracted hundreds of million views on various social media platforms since its release in November 2023, the campaign showcases South Africa’s rich cultural diversity, breathtaking landscapes with the best wildlife safaris, and one-of-a-kind world-class travel experiences.
For his role in the ad, Noah, through unconfirmed reports, was rumoured to have been paid R33-million.
As shown below, the campaign had over 1 million views on YouTube alone the time of going to the press.
