Castle Lager Boktown returns: Springbok spirit to fill Fan Parks across South Africa
Johannesburg – Springbok rugby is more than just sport — it’s a national celebration. And this year, thanks to Castle Lager’s Boktown 2025 initiative, rugby fans from every corner of South Africa will once again get to experience the heart-pounding action live — no DStv Premium or costly ticket required.
The Boktown tour kicks off on Saturday, 28 June at Wanderers Oval, Johannesburg, where fans will gather to watch the Springboks take on the Barbarians — the first-ever clash between the two teams on South African soil.
The event isn’t just about match viewing — it’s a full-scale festival, with live performances by GoodLuck, Shekhinah, Loufi, and 4am, a DJ battle featuring Jacaranda FM legends Barney Simon and Alex Jay, food markets, Springbok appearances, and family fun for all.
“Castle Lager Boktown carries the heartbeat of Springbok rugby into towns and cities across the country,” said Rian Oberholzer, CEO of SA Rugby. “It gives supporters a front-row view while offering partners a stage to enrich the Springbok story.”
“We want fans shoulder-to-shoulder, singing, cheering and making memories,” added Thomas Lawrence, Castle Lager Brand Director.
The Boktowns aim to fill the access gap left by expensive ticket prices and subscription TV, ensuring that ordinary South Africans can share in the gees — even from afar.
“We’re bringing rugby back to the people,” said Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie, speaking at the launch on Friday. “I’m going to fight very hard that at least one of the games should be shown for everybody to see.”

A Legacy of partnership
This initiative, part of a long-standing partnership between SA Rugby and South African Breweries, mirrors other impactful collaborations such as the Mapimpi-Mercedes youth empowerment campaign, and builds on past successes like the Samsung sponsorship boost.
While ticket prices for stadium seats continue to soar — with some matches selling for up to R6,000 in VIP lounges — Boktowns are providing fans with an inclusive alternative to experience the Springboks’ 2025 season in an electrifying environment.
