As the curtain closes on the 2024/25 African football season, speculation surrounding Clement Mzize’s next move is heating up — and Kaizer Chiefs are among the clubs circling.
The Young Africans SC (Yanga) star, fresh off another Tanzania Premier League title, has confirmed he’s received offers amid growing interest from across the continent.
“I’ve had a great season — winning the Premier League crown and scoring in the derby,” Mzize told The Guardian. “It’s an immense feeling, and I’m grateful to be here. It’s true that I’ve received offers, but as a player, I can’t disclose them.”
He added: “Of course, I want to explore new opportunities to grow my career. I’ve had wonderful moments at Young Africans, and as I’ve mentioned, I’m still under contract. So everything will be handled through my management, and we’ll see what happens next.”
Kaizer Chiefs watching closely
The statement could not come at a better time for Kaizer Chiefs, who are in the midst of revamping their squad under head coach Nasreddine Nabi. The club, already prepping for a pre-season tour in the Netherlands, has been linked with Indonesian-based striker Flavio Silva — but Mzize presents a home-continent alternative.
Mzize, 21, registered 14 goals and five assists across all competitions, including a goal in a decisive 2-0 derby win against Simba SC. His performance has not only sparked interest in South Africa but has also drawn eyes from North African giants like Pyramids FC, Wydad Casablanca, and JS Kabylie.
Young Africans resisting exodus
While Stephane Aziz Ki has already exited Yanga for Wydad Casablanca, the club is reportedly keen to avoid a mass departure. Maxi Nzengeli, another Chiefs-linked name, has signed a two-year extension with Yanga.
“The information that has been circulating on social media is nothing but propaganda,” an insider told The Guardian. “Those spreading it know their motives, but the truth is that Maxi has already signed a new two-year contract.”
Nonetheless, Mzize’s situation remains fluid as the player eyes new horizons.
Chiefs and their African vision
This isn’t the first time Kaizer Chiefs have expressed interest in expanding their reach beyond South Africa. Beyond their football ambitions, the club continues to make a positive impact off the pitch — bringing relief to the disabled community in Bloemfontein.
Whether Mzize becomes the next puzzle piece in Nabi’s rebuild remains to be seen, but all signs point to a busy transfer window for Amakhosi — and perhaps a few surprises along the way.
