Unhappy with your 2024 matric results? Here’s how to apply for a re-mark or re-check

Unhappy with your 2024 matric results? Below are steps to take if you failed matric, or you're unhappy with your results!

2024 Matric Results, South Africa — the announcement of matric results is one of the most anticipated moments for South African students, marking the culmination of their high career journey. It’s a milestone that students, parents, and teachers eagerly await, as these results often shape future education and career opportunities.

On Tuesday, thousands of matriculants learned their fate after sitting their final exams in late 2024. (read about the 2024 matric results release here).

While many celebrated their achievements, some students were left feeling dissatisfied with their results. If you’re one of those students, don’t worry — the Department of Basic Education (DBE) offers an opportunity to have your exam scripts re-marked or re-checked for a fee.

Key deadlines (dates) to remember

  • Re-mark/Re-check Applications: The closing date for applications is Wednesday January 29, 2025, for both manual and online submissions.
  • Correction of Personal Details: Students must report any errors on their result statements by February 21, 2025.

How to apply for a re-mark or re-check

If you’re unhappy with your final matric results, you can apply to have your exam scripts reviewed. Applications can be made:

  1. In Person: At your school or district office.
  2. Online: Through the e-services portal at www.eservices.gov.za. Detailed instructions can be found on the reverse side of your Statement of Results.

Costs Per Subject

  • Re-mark: R120.00
  • Re-check: R30.00
  • Viewing of Scripts: After a re-mark or re-check, students can apply to view their scripts for R230.00. Applications for script viewing must be submitted within 7 days of receiving re-mark or re-check results.

Release of Re-mark Results

The results of re-marking will be available from March 7, 2025, at the school or exam center where students sat for their exams.

This process provides a valuable second chance to ensure your results accurately reflect your efforts and abilities. Take action before the deadlines to explore these options.

Feeling overwhelmed and need guidance?

For students who may feel disappointed, remember that this isn’t the end of the road. Whether through a re-mark, further education opportunities, or alternate paths, your journey is just beginning!

However, for those feeling overwhelmed and in need of support, the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) is here to help. SADAG has extended its services to assist parents, caregivers, and learners during this challenging time.

The organisation begun a series sessions a week before the matric results announcement and will conclude with a final Zoom session on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 6 PM. Students are encouraged to join and connect with fellow matriculants, sharing their thoughts in a supportive, safe environment.

If you or your parents feel overwhelmed, you can contact SADAG’s toll-free helpline at 0800 567 567 or the Cipla Mental Health Helpline at 0800 456 789.
