Confirmed SASSA payment dates for June 2025
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed that June’s payment cycle begins this week, with over 19 million beneficiaries expected to receive their grants by the end of the first week.
June 2025 grant payment schedule:
- Older Persons & War Veterans Grants: Tuesday, June 3
- Disability & Grant-in-Aid: Wednesday, June 4
- Children’s Grants (Child Support, Foster Care, Care Dependency): Thursday, June 5
Grants can be accessed via SASSA cards, direct bank deposits, or collection at authorised retailers such as Pick n Pay, Boxer, Shoprite, Usave, and Checkers. For safety, SASSA advises beneficiaries not to withdraw their entire grant at once.

Major delays: 210,000+ grants suspended over undeclared income
SASSA has flagged more than 210,000 beneficiaries due to suspected “double-dipping” — receiving grants while earning undeclared income. Payments for these individuals are delayed until they complete a full grant review.
“These individuals are required to present themselves at their nearest SASSA local offices for a grant review within 30 days … Beneficiaries who fail to comply with this process risk having their grants suspended,” — Paseka Letsatsi, SASSA spokesperson explained.
Failure to comply will result in permanent lapse of the grant. The move follows a nationwide review to ensure eligibility under the Social Assistance Act.

Fake news alert: No double payments in June
SASSA has denounced viral claims about “double payments” in June as false:
“We appeal to our beneficiaries not to expect any double payment in June … Any other increase not announced by credible and relevant authorities should be treated as lies,” Letsatsi said.
The next official grant increase is scheduled for October 2025, following the one that took effect in April.
New SRD grant rule in effect
From June 2025 onward, new SRD grant applicants must complete an additional verification step—no payment will be made without it.
“[Applicants] must reconfirm their application every three months. Failure to do so will result in non-payment,” — SASSA statement
Apply for a disability grant online from June
In another major development, SASSA has launched a new digital platform that allows eligible South Africans to apply for disability grants online, from the comfort of their homes.
“The online portal aims to speed up disability assessments while increasing transparency and reducing fraud,”
— SASSA Head of Operations
