With over 18 million South Africans depending on monthly SASSA grants, the stakes are especially high as the August 2025 payment cycle kicks off. While the confirmed payment schedule remains unchanged, a fresh urgent alert from the South African Social Security Agency could determine whether some grants arrive on time — or not at all.
Important SASSA reminder
On Tuesday, SASSA reiterated the following critical advisory:
1. If you have multiple active bank accounts, update your information with SASSA to avoid your grant being delayed.
2. Always keep your PIN safe to avoid fraud on your grant.
The warning comes as recurring banking issues and fraud complaints continue to plague beneficiaries — particularly those receiving the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) and Child Support Grants.
Beneficiaries are urged to act immediately to avoid being affected. If unsure, check or update your payment method directly with SASSA and make sure your mobile number is verified. A step-by-step tool for updating your contact number is now available.
