SASSA June 2025 grants payment begins – don’t make these costly mistakes

With SASSA payments kicking off this week, beneficiaries are urged to follow key tips to avoid delays, missed payouts, and long queues at collection points.

NATIONAL NEWS – The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) officially begins its June 2025 grant payment cycle on Tuesday, 3 June, with millions of beneficiaries expected to receive their grants throughout the week

As payment collections begin across the country, SASSA has urged beneficiaries to be informed and prepared to avoid common mistakes that could delay or complicate the process.

June 2025 SASSA grant payment dates

(Full schedule here)

  • Older Persons & War Veterans Grants: Tuesday, 3 June
  • Disability Grant & Grant-in-Aid: Wednesday, 4 June
  • Children’s, Foster Care & Care Dependency Grants: Thursday, 5 June
  • SRD Grant (R370): Processed between 25–30 June (bank-dependent)

Grant amounts across categories

Following increases that took effect in April, the current grant payouts are as follows:

  • Older Persons, Disability & Care Dependency Grants: R2 315
  • War Veterans Grant: R2 335
  • Foster Care Grant: R1 250
  • Child Support Grant & Grant-in-Aid: R560
  • SRD Grant: R370 per month

Top collection mistakes to avoid

1. Rushing to Collect on Day One

SASSA has again reminded beneficiaries:

“Once the money is in the account, it will remain there.”

There’s no need to rush to the collection point on the first day of payout. Crowds lead to long queues, delays, and sometimes even health risks for the elderly.

2. Not bringing proper identification

Make sure to bring a valid South African ID, preferably a smart ID card. Green barcoded ID books are still accepted but are being phased out due to higher fraud risk.

3. Failing to check grant type and payment date

Avoid showing up on the wrong day. Each grant category has a specific payout date. You can verify yours via:

4. Ignoring direct deposit options

Beneficiaries can collect via:

  • Direct deposit into their bank account
  • Pick-up from a SASSA pay point
  • Retail outlets and ATMs (Postbank cardholders)

Choosing bank deposits helps reduce queues and gives beneficiaries flexibility.

Key tips for a smooth grant collection

  • Double-check your payment date and method.
  • Avoid peak hours and choose off-peak collection times if using pay points.
  • Keep your contact details updated to receive SMS notifications from SASSA.
  • Report any payment or fraud issues immediately via official channels.

Looking ahead: SRD & budget expansion

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana earlier confirmed that the SRD Grant (R370) remains funded through 2025, with R35.2 billion allocated to support ongoing relief and admin costs.

“The future form and nature of the SRD would be informed by the outcome of the review… expected to be completed by September 2025,” he said.
