South African business mogul and reality TV star Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize has broken her months-long silence with a cryptic social media post addressing her financial turmoil and personal betrayals, as her Premier Soccer League (PSL) club, Royal AM, teeters on the brink of collapse.
In a rare Instagram Story post on Monday, MaMkhize shared a photo of herself in her lavish La Lucia home, writing: “My side of the story doesn’t matter anymore. Life happened. It hurt; I healed.” She added a pointed reflection on fractured relationships: “But most importantly, I learned who deserves a seat at my table and who will never sit again.”
The post marks her first public remarks since January, when she apologised to Royal AM players over unpaid salaries amid SARS’ seizure of the club to recover a staggering R40 million tax debt.
Legal firestorm and raided mansions
MaMkhize’s financial crisis escalated in December when SARS officials and police raided multiple properties, including her Durban mansion, Sandhurst residence, and a Pietermaritzburg estate.
Authorities reportedly seized high-calibre rifles and ammunition during the operation, adding fuel to her legal woes. The tax body accuses her of evading over R40 million in payments, alongside prior charges of fraud, forgery, and bribery.
Royal AM’s sale stalls amid buyer backlash
The embattled Royal AM club, once a PSL powerhouse, is now stuck in sale limbo. Durban businessman Roy Moodley and his son Mageshprem initially emerged as potential buyers, but curator Jaco Venter claims their company, Global Investments, failed to meet payment deadlines.
Moodley has denied the allegations, accusing the sellers of hiding the club’s dire financial state. With the deal collapsed, Royal AM is back on the market, with its future uncertain.
A saga of scandals and social media silence
MaMkhize’s troubles have dominated headlines for months, from rumors of an assassination plot against a SARS investigator to asset freezes and player salary disputes.
Despite the storm, she has largely avoided public commentary, save for January’s apology and this week’s reflective post.
