How to check your 2024 matric results: 4 official platforms 

As the Department of Basic Education (DBE) prepares to release the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) matric results online on Tuesday, January 14, here’s how matriculants, parents, and educators across South Africa can access these results conveniently and securely.

After a legal battle concluded in the Pretoria High Court, the Department of Basic Education has been given the green light to publish the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination results in newspapers and online platforms.

The case was brought to courts by the Information Regulator, which argued the 2024 should not be made public as this violates the learners’ right to privacy, as provisioned by the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

For students, parents, and educators across the country, here’s everything they need to know to access the results conveniently and privately.

Where and how to access your results

1. Visit your school or exam centre

On Monday, January 13, at 6pm, Siviwe Gwarube, the National Minister of Basic Education, along with her deputy, Dr Reginah Mhaule, will announce the 2024 Grade 12 national results — ahead of the official public matric results release and subsequent publication on newspapers on Tuesday.

Spokesperson for the Department of Basic Education Elijah Mhlanga said matriculants can collect announced the official statement of results will be available at the school or center where you wrote your exams — from Tuesday when schools open at 8am. 2. Department of Basic Education (DBE) website

  • Access your results online at www.education.gov.za from 6am on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
  • To access the results:
  • Have your examination number ready.
  • Ensure your name and ID details are correctly reflected on your statement of results.
  • Report any errors to the Department before February 12, 2025.

3. Gauteng Matric Results (GMR) app

  • The Gauteng Department of e-Government has launched the GMR app, providing a secure and private way to access results via smartphones and digital devices.
  • According to department spokesperson Neo Goba, this initiative enhances accessibility and transparency while protecting learners’ privacy.

4. SMS and USSD services

You can check your results on your phone using these steps:

  • SMS Method:
    • Text your exam number to 35658.
    • SMSes cost R1.50 per message.
  • USSD Method:
    • Dial *120*35658#, then follow the prompts.
    • USSD is charged at 50c per 20 seconds.
  • Only one cellphone number can be registered per exam number.

Important: These services are exclusive the NSC examinations administered by the DBE and are not available for Independent Examinations Board (IEB) results
