South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) administers a range of social support grants, including the Old Age grant, Disability Grant, War Veterans Grant, Care Dependency Grant, Foster Child Grant, Child Support Grant, Grant-in-Aid, and the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant.
SASSA grant payment dates for October 2025
- Older Persons Grant & War Veterans: Thursday, October 2
- Disability Grant & Grant-in-Aid: Friday, October 3
- Children’s Grants, including Care Dependency and Foster Care grants : Monday, October 6
- SRD: Social Relief of Distress payment dates are typically distributed in the last week of the month. Recipients must confirm their exact date on the official SASSA SRD status tracker ar srd.sassa.gov.za.

- Old Age (60–74 years) & Disability Grant: R2 315
- Old Age (75+ years): R2 335
- War Veterans Grant: R2 315
- Care Dependency Grant: R2 315

SASSA has reminded recipients that grants remain available for collection after these dates, meaning beneficiaries don’t need to rush on the exact payment day.
Banking changes and card phase-out
With Postbank’s contract ending on September 30, 2025, beneficiaries are urged to update their banking details either online or at local offices to ensure uninterrupted access to funds.
Beneficiaries can:
- Update their banking details securely at srd.sassa.gov.za.
- Visit a SASSA office with an ID and proof of bank account for in-person updates.
Verification takes 4–10 working days, with changes applying to future payments.

SASSA has encouraged beneficiaries to use digital tools to track their grant payments:
- USSD codes: Dial
*120*3210#or*120*69277#from your registered cellphone. - SASSA online portal: Log in at www.sassa.gov.za.
- WhatsApp: Message “SASSA” to 082 046 8553 and follow prompts.
- ATMs & retailers: Use your card at participating stores like Shoprite, Boxer, and Pick n Pay.
Johannesburg office closure amid fraud probe
SASSA’s Johannesburg local office has been shut down since September 15, 2025, following the suspension of eight officials facing fraud-related charges.
SASSA CEO Themba Matlou stated:
“The suspension of the eight officials reaffirms Sassa’s intolerance of any form of malfeasance. We want to make sure that everyone is brought to book and they account for their actions.”
To minimise disruption, services are being redirected to the Westbury Clinic, South Hills Community Hall, and Cosmo City Multipurpose Centre.
The closure comes as SASSA continues to strengthen anti-fraud measures, including biometric checks and a crackdown on fraudulent payments.
