From London to the Lion’s Den: Majesticks GC Lock In Horsfield for LIV Golf South Africa

With Sam Horsfield's re-signing confirmed, the European-based Majesticks finalise their squad for a historic clash with Stinger GC on South African soil, marking a new era for golf on the continent.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – As revealed in a media statement sent to NOWinSA, Majesticks Golf Club has solidified its roster for the 2026 LIV Golf season by re-signing Sam Horsfield.

The 29-year-old Englishman, a key part of the team since joining in 2022, will now join legends Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood, along with new signing Laurie Canter, as they prepare to land at The Club at Steyn City from March 12-22, 2026 for LIV Golf’s historic first tournament on the African continent.

According to the team, Horsfield has become “integral to the direction Majesticks Golf Club are heading on and off the course.” His youthful approach blends with veteran experience to complete what Majesticks Co-General Manager James Dunkley calls an “elite lineup” for the season ahead. Horsfield is aiming to build on his consistent form, which includes a runner-up finish at LIV Golf Nashville in 2024, and secure his first league win.

This landmark sporting event follows direct negotiations between South Africa’s government and LIV Golf executives. Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie was instrumental in securing the multi-year deal, championing it as a major success that will showcase the nation’s sporting culture and world-class hospitality.

The government estimates the event will generate a significant economic impact of R700 million to R800 million for the region through tourism and related spending. Minister McKenzie emphasised this point, stating the event is designed to “boost tourism, and create lasting opportunities for our communities.”

A Return to “Happy Hunting Grounds” for Horsfield

While the Majesticks are London-based, Horsfield is no stranger to the unique challenges of South African fairways. He has a proven track record in the country, most notably finishing as runner-up at the 2018 Tshwane Open. His ability to navigate high-altitude conditions and fast Highveld greens makes him a key asset as the league heads to Johannesburg.

“I’m so happy to re-sign with Majesticks Golf Club for the 2026 LIV Golf season,” Horsfield said in the statement. “I’m so excited heading into the new season and am confident it can be our best yet… I can’t wait to experience the incredible atmosphere we know the South African fans will bring to Steyn City.”

Majesticks vs. The Stingers: A Clash on Home Soil

The re-signing officially sets the stage for a clash of titans at Steyn City. The Majesticks’ finalised line-up will face off against South Africa’s own Stinger GC, led by Louis Oosthuizen and featuring Charl Schwartzel, Branden Grace and Dean Burmester.

The home team stands as a testament to South Africa’s rich golfing heritage and will carry the nation’s hopes in front of what is expected to be a sell-out crowd at the tournament’s signature “Lion’s Den” party hole.

Impact Beyond the Green: “Little Sticks” Meets Local Development

The media release also highlighted Horsfield’s advocacy for the Majesticks’ Little Sticks community programme, which aims to make golf more inclusive while helping children learn life skills through the game. As LIV Golf expands into Africa, this focus on youth development aligns with South Africa’s broader sporting ethos and commitment to growth at grassroots level.

South Africa has a strong history of nurturing young golfing talent, as seen in NOWinSA’s profile of Simthandile “Sim Tiger” Tshabalala. Development initiatives are also evident on the women’s side of the game, with corporate backing such as Absa’s record-breaking support for the Sunshine Ladies Tour helping to reshape the sport locally.
