- Samsung Galaxy Tab S6
THE NEWLY released Galaxy Tab S6, Samsung’s latest foray into the tablet market has been welcomed by both tech and environment enthusiasts. The tech company has been making news not only for their captivating innovations but for their products which are recognized worldwide as easy to recycle at end-of-life.
Following in the footsteps of the Galaxy S smartphones (notably the S6), which are 99.9% recyclable and were awarded several eco-friendly certifications, including EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool), the Galaxy Tab S6 has been designed with improved environmental performance.
Coming hardly a year after Samsung’s announcement of a new environmentally sustainable packaging, the Tab S6 is produced with 100% recycled paper and use soy-based inks. Similarly, the plastic tray for the tablet has been replaced with renewable molded fibre (pulp) instead of plastic. Now with the eco-friendly wireless charging capabilities, the S Pen on Galaxy Tab S6 can deliver up to 10 hours of battery life after only 10 minutes of charging.
While it’s not green-technology per se, several studies support the finding that wireless charging could reduce demand for power cables while making our every day gadgets more durable. Furthermore, it eliminates the need for throwaway batteries – all which could help minimize landfills toxic.
- Eco-friendly SodaStream carbonated bottle
SodaStream South Africa will next month launch once-in-a-lifetime Proudly South African carbonated line of bottles. A world first in the company’s history, the unique innovation pays homage to 25 years of democracy in South Africa and will be available at retail stores nationwide in September.
The re-usable bottle is designed to help consumers reduce plastic footprint to save the planet and can subsequently replace 512 bottles that a single person uses in a year. With an estimated 300 million tonnes of plastic waste produced worldwide every year, the move will go a long way in helping South Africa, ranked in the top 20 countries for mismanaged waste, in its efforts to achieve zero waste to landfills.
Designed with the country’s cultural and ethnic diversity in mind, the bottle features various landscapes and proudly South African designs. It has a unique cap which not only seals the bottle to ensure it retains its fizziness but doesn’t contain BPA (bisphenol A), a chemical used to make plastic. “We wanted to create a truly unique offering that shows how passionate the company is about the country. With this Proudly South African design, we have created the ultimate bottle that is not only better for a person, but the planet as well,” says Thembakazi Ndamase, marketing director of SodaStream SA.
The recommended retail price is R246.99. For a complete list stockists or the bottle, visit www.sodastream.co.za.
- Mugg & Bean Eco Cups
Worried about the rapid rise of landfills contributing to worldwide polution? Join Mugg & Bean in the fight against the worrying trend of waste dumping (currently sitting at 98 million tonnes yearly in South Africa) and help stop – through recycling and composting – the devastating impact of disposable coffee cups on the environment.
The eatery has made available its first 100% compostable and biodegradable takeaway Eco Cup, which is manufactured using material sourced from renewable resources. This means green thumbed coffee snobs can not only enjoy drinking their coffee guilt-free but go as far as growing their own coffee trees at home when they are done. “We aim to inspire generous living and the most sustainable way to demonstrate this is not only by giving back to our customers, but to the environment too,” says Mugg & Bean South Africa marketing executive Liesl Gruber.
Available at all Mugg & Bean stores across South Africa, the eco cups are certified by the Biodegradable Products Institute.
