How to Play Daily Lotto in South Africa: What changed under Sizekhaya Holdings
Daily Lotto still costs R3 per board (choose 5 numbers from 1 to 36) and draws take place nightly at 9pm.
However, since Sizekhaya Holdings took over as the National Lottery operator in June 2026 from Ithuba, several major changes have been implemented.
Read our full report on Sizekhaya’s National Lottery takeover for the complete breakdown.
Here is what has changed:
- New License & Term: Sizekhaya assumed control under an 8-year license from the National Lotteries Commission (NLC), though the tender faces ongoing legal challenges.
- Live Televised Draws: Live draws have returned to SABC 1 and SABC 2 at 9pm to boost transparency and public trust.
- Digital & Retail Upgrades: Over 5,500 new lottery terminals have been deployed nationwide, integrated with roughly eight major banks. The new Shesha Code allows mobile scanning, and Multiplay lets you stack games on a single ticket.
- Cascading Jackpots & Odds: Improved winning odds by roughly 30% through number format adjustments, alongside updated pricing structures for games like PowerBall.
- Winner Support: Dedicated financial planners and psychologists are now provided for winners of R50,000 or more to assist with long-term wealth creation.
Ticket sales close at 8.30pm, though Capitec and Nedbank app users face an earlier 8.25pm cut-off.
Winners have 365 days to claim their prizes.
