HONOR 600 vs 600 Pro: One costs R5 000 more — but is it worth it in South Africa?

The HONOR 600 Series has arrived in South Africa with a 200MP camera, 7 000mAh battery and flagship-level features. Here's how the HONOR 600 and HONOR 600 Pro compare on specs, performance and price.

JOHANNESBURG — The HONOR 600 Series has officially arrived in South Africa, introducing two devices that share the same design language, display and primary camera — but target different users once the hardware differences come into play.

Both the HONOR 600 and HONOR 600 Pro feature a 200MP camera, a large 7 000mAh battery and a premium AMOLED display.

On paper, they appear nearly identical. The real separation comes down to performance, zoom photography and added convenience features — and a R5 000 price gap.

NOWinSA attended the South African launch at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand in late May, where both devices were positioned as compact, premium smartphones designed for users who want flagship features without oversized hardware.

The design marks a clear evolution from the HONOR 400 Series, which introduced many of the AI-powered photography features now refined in the HONOR 600 range.

HONOR 600 and 600 Pro specs: what stays the same

Despite the price difference, the HONOR 600 and HONOR 600 Pro are built on the same foundation.

Both devices include:

  • 6.57-inch AMOLED display (120Hz refresh rate, up to 8 000 nits brightness)
  • 200MP main camera (1/1.4-inch sensor)
  • 12MP ultrawide camera
  • 7 000mAh battery
  • 80W wired fast charging
  • IP68/IP69/IP69K durability rating

This shared hardware explains why both phones feel almost identical in everyday use, from messaging and browsing to streaming and photography.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 vs Snapdragon 8 Elite: performance compared

The HONOR 600 runs on the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, designed for efficient upper mid-range performance. It handles daily tasks smoothly, including social media, video streaming and multitasking.

The HONOR 600 Pro steps up to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, a flagship chipset that delivers significantly stronger performance under pressure. It shows its advantage in gaming, heavy multitasking and AI-driven workloads.

In real-world use, both phones feel fast. The difference appears when workloads increase.

The Pro maintains higher frame rates, stronger thermal stability and more consistent performance during long gaming sessions.

Battery life slightly favours the standard HONOR 600 in light usage, as the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 consumes less power during everyday tasks. The Pro, however, performs better under sustained load despite drawing more energy.

Both devices support 80W wired charging, reaching a full charge in under 50 minutes.

The HONOR 600 Pro adds 50W wireless charging and reverse wired charging, offering more flexibility for users with charging pads or multiple devices.

200MP camera showdown: does the HONOR Pro justify the extra cost?

Both smartphones use the same 200MP main camera and 12MP ultrawide lens.

In most lighting conditions, results are closely matched, especially in daylight and standard portrait photography.

HONOR’s AiMAGE system enhances detail, colour accuracy and low-light performance across both models, producing consistent results in challenging lighting environments.

As noted in our earlier HONOR 400 Pro review, the company continues to prioritise imaging performance as a key differentiator.

“With the HONOR 600 Series, we wanted to give South Africans a camera system that performs consistently across low-light portraits, city scenes, sport and live events, even in challenging lighting conditions,” said Fred Zhou, CEO of HONOR South Africa.

The major difference is the HONOR 600 Pro’s 50MP periscope telephoto lens. It delivers 3.5x optical zoom and up to 120x digital zoom, significantly expanding shooting versatility.

This makes the Pro better suited for concerts, sport, wildlife and distant subjects. The standard HONOR 600 lacks a telephoto lens entirely, relying on digital zoom that loses detail at higher magnification.

For everyday photography, social media content and portraits, the HONOR 600 remains highly capable.

HONOR 600 vs 600 Pro prices in South Africa

The price difference is one of the biggest deciding factors.

  • HONOR 600: R14 999
  • HONOR 600 Pro: R19 999

That R5 000 gap reflects upgrades in performance, zoom photography and convenience features such as wireless charging.

Both devices are available through major South African networks:

Verdict: which one should you buy?

The HONOR 600 is the stronger value choice for most South African buyers.

Readers can also revisit NOWinSA’s HONOR 400 Pro vs Samsung S25 comparison to see how the brand’s previous contender stacked up against flagship competition.

It delivers the same display, battery, camera system and build quality as the Pro at a significantly lower price.

The HONOR 600 Pro is aimed at users who need more power, wireless charging and advanced zoom capability. It is best suited for mobile gamers, content creators and power users who will actively use the extra features.

For most buyers, the HONOR 600 offers the best balance between price and performance. The Pro only becomes worth the extra spend if its added capabilities match your specific needs.
