South African football gets a new chapter of Giants this weekend.
SuperSport’s docuseries, produced with T+W, returns for season two with Kaizer Chiefs joining Orlando Pirates in the story.
The new season premieres on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 8:30pm on SuperSport PSL, SuperSport KickOff and Wethu+.
The launch comes just weeks after DStv confirmed a dedicated sports channel priced at R399.
Before season two begins, viewers can catch up with the original Giants season 1.
SuperSport will screen all five episodes on Saturday from 5:30pm to 10:35pm on SuperSport PSL.
Giants season 2 brings Kaizer Chiefs into the story
The biggest change is the arrival of Kaizer Chiefs, putting the two Soweto giants at the heart of the second season.
Series director Luthando Tshaya says Chiefs was always part of the wider Giants concept.
“Kaizer Chiefs was always part of the original Giants concept,” he explains.
Producer Busi Moshodi also highlights the way football rivalry can exist alongside family and personal relationships.
“The rivalry becomes part of the relationship rather than something that divides them,” she says.
Why Giants is coming to Wethu+
The Wethu+ screening also puts local football content on a lower DStv tier, giving subscribers another way to watch the series without upgrading to the R799 Premium package.
That gives Giants a potentially broad audience at a time when South African households remain under pressure from rising entertainment costs.
The move also highlights the value of locally produced football stories.
Netflix and Disney+ can offer global sports and entertainment productions, but Giants can draw directly on the culture surrounding two of South Africa’s biggest football clubs.
The series therefore has a distinctly local hook: the Soweto Derby rivalry and the people behind it.
When is Giants season 2 on?
Season two premieres on Sunday, September 27 at 8:30pm on SuperSport PSL, SuperSport KickOff and Wethu+.

The next chapter of the real-life rivalry is also already on the calendar, with Orlando Pirates hosting Kaizer Chiefs on October 31.
