Gauteng ready to welcome domestic visitors

As South Africans gear up to celebrate Christmas and the rest of the remaining holiday season, Gauteng Tourism Authority officially launched its provincial Domestic Tourism Festive Season Promotional Campaign, #GPFestiveSummer.

Hosted by Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Agriculture and Environment, Morakane Mosupyoe, the promotional drive was aimed at encouraging Gautengers and visitors alike to travel locally and become tourists in their own backyard.

“As we emerge into sector recovery, Gauteng Tourism resumes its activities with a renewed spirit that aims to pursue and maximize on tourism economy diversification, attract investment, increase revenues and create job opportunities,” said GTA acting CEO Barba Gaoganediwe.

With the second coronavirus wave in full swing in South Africa – as we await a vaccine – Gaoganediwe emphasised the importance of following travel health and safety protocols during festive season travels.

“We appeal to our residents and visitors to be mindful of the protocols that have been put in place for their safety and encourage people to keep their distance and to wear masks in public and closed places,” adds Gaoganediwe.

As Tourism remains a key driver of South Africa’s national economy, Gauteng is open and ready to once again offer the locals and visitors memorable experiences while adhering to COVID-19 protocols.

To give prospective visitors a taste of what the province has to offer, GTA embarked on a 4-day programme which kicked off with a media/guest visit to the western region of the province. The area is home to a handful of breathtaking leisure and outdoor adventure activities, as well as the world-renowned Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site.

The second leg took place in the northern region of Tshwane, with a visit to the Rosslyn BMW plant to engage on leveraging opportunities for inovation and investments for the visitor economy in the province.

On the last leg of the  part of the programme, guests were  were given a peek into the ‘new urbanist’ shopping and entertainment spaces in the Menlyn Maine precinct, before wrapping up the festivities with an exhilarating outdoor tour of the Rietvlei NatureReserve.
