The 2020 Royalty Soapie adds two new awards for background talent

As the Royalty Soapie Awards (RSAs) head toward the final curtain call for 2020 entries, organisers introduced Thursday two new categories honouring and showing appreciation to background talent as essential part of the production.

This year the fourth RSAs installment sees two additional recognition awards, first being the Social Cohesion category, which is dedicated to a soapie production team that has demonstrated and/or addressed the most current social affair or ills affecting society today.

The second honour is for Background Actor in a soapie production that has been essential in providing realism to a particular scene.

“Soapies have taken the educational role as they reflect our daily reality by including storylines that tackle our social ills head-on and challenge South Africans to have tough conversations. The Royalty Soapie Awards would like to recognise the show for their commitment to uplift and encourage Mzansi to do better,” RSAs founder Winnie Ntshaba said.

The Background Actor category, she added, is equally important as it usually marks the beginning of an exciting career journey ahead for some of South Africa’s most talented stars.

Meanwhile, production companies keen to become part of this rewarding journey have until July 30 – at 12 midnight – to submit their online entries on www.royaltysa.com.
