Pre-orders now open for world’s most expensive phone

Smartphone brand leader Samsung has officially launched its third generation foldable device in South Africa, the Galaxy Z Fold 2, with pre-orders opening on Monday, September 7. As expected, it is packed with meaningful innovations and cutting edge technology for high tech gadget freaks who want to make a really big statement.

An update of the original 2019 Galaxy Fold which came with a fairly impressive 7.3-inch main screen, the newest model comes with a larger 7.6-inch display, revealed when the phone is unfolded, providing maximum usability for everyday use, and most notably for gaming and playing videos.

Another notable difference from its predecessor is the cover screen, which is 1.63 times in size at 6.2 inches compared with the original 4.6 inches.

Unveiled during a virtual event on Tuesday (September 1), when unfolded, the phone’s screen is bigger and more square in shape than its predecessor.

Unlike its predecesor, it provides a more cinematic and ‘immersive’ viewing experience thanks to thinner bezels – the borders between the display and the frame.

The device, which supports 5G, also comes with a Infinity-O display, which covers the entire face of the phone and features a small ‘hole punch’ style camera.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 was re-designed based on consumer feedback, which revelead a significant surge in watching video clips and gaming.

“We closely listened to user feedback to ensure we were bringing meaningful improvements to the hardware, while also developing new innovations to enhance the user experience. Further strengthened by our industry-leading partnerships with Google and Microsoft, we’re reshaping and redefining the possibilities of the mobile device experience,” said Samsung South Africa’s Justin Hume.

Camera and battery features

Both the main and cover screen have 10 megapixel cameras designed for selfies, while the back of the device features a triple camera system – 12 megapixel ultra wide, 12 megapixel wide-angle and a 12 megapixel telephoto camera with up to 10 times digital zoom.

Galaxy Z Fold 2 also has a 4500mAh dual battery, fast wireless charging, 12GB RAM with 256GB internal storage and runs Android 10.
