Celebrate Abba’s first new album in 40 years with M-Net Movies’ Mamma Mia specials

In celebration of Abba's first album (Voyage) release in 40 years, M-Net Movies will bring local TV viewers on Friday and Saturday (November 4 and 5), a special broadcast of 'Mamma Mia' and its sequel 'Mamma Mia, Here We Go Again'.

After a rather deafening silence of nearly four decades, Abba, one of the most successful pop groups of all time, have in September made their monumental comeback, announcing the release of their very last album, titled Voyage, which was subsequently marked by the dropping of the singles, I Still Have Faith in You‘ and ‘Don’t Shut Me Down‘.

A follow-up to their last 1981 studio album ‘The Visitors’, music from the new album is in part as old as the band itself, however a big chunk of it is completely new songs – 10 new songs to be precise – by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaes.

Abba’s Voyage official release date

Ahead of the worldwide release of the album on Saturday (November 5) by Universal Music Group, two weeks ago (October 18), Abba took to TikTok to share a video clip teasing a catchy new single called ‘Just A Notion’.

“It’s happening…,” the group captioned the short clip, accompanied by the hashtags #ABBA, #DancingWithABBA and #JustANotion.

After 40 years, Abba is back with a new album and a stage show featuring digital versions of themselves from 1979 (as seen above).

Forming part of the band’s virtual concert titled, Abba Voyage, set to open in May 2022 in a specially-built arena in east London, ‘Voyage’ is so far Universal UK’s biggest ever album pre-order, with over 80,000 copies purchased in its first three days of release going live, and has subsequently broken previous record set by Take That  for their ‘Progress’ and ‘III’ albums.

As a special treat for multitudes of the Swedish pop band’s fans in South Africa, M-Net Movies (DStv Premium, channel 104) will show Mamma Mia and its sequel, Mamma Mia, Here We Go Again, at 6pm on Friday and Saturday (November 5 and 6).
