It was a sunny Sunday in Sandton as we attended an exclusive event hosted by Patrón Tequila for the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix live race viewing party. The invite-only event was hosted at Azur Monarch on Sunday, May 24, with the theme being ‘Dress to Impress With a Touch of Green’. And true to form, Joburg influencers and TV personalities didn’t disappoint when it came to fashion; they brought their style A-game with elegance and class.
Giving the locals a unique opportunity to experience the thrill and vibrant atmosphere of the F1 circuit, Patrón Tequila ensured that every guest feels as though they’re inside the Paddock Club VIP Yacht, one of the most iconic and exclusive hospitality venues in sports.
From the energetic crowd to equally thrilling races and scrumptious themed canapés and invigorating tequila cocktails, it was a luxurious atmosphere reminding one why the F1 Grand Prix races command such a huge following among Formula One fans throughout the world. It really felt like we were right inside Circuit de Monaco, the home of motorsport, in person.
Patrón-Red Bull Formula 1 partnership
This event marks the beginning in South Africa of a global partnership between Red Bull Formula 1 team and Patrón Tequila. A series of activations will be hosted across the country to commemorate the coming together of two of the world’s most recognized premium lifestyle brands.
Bringing the ambiance of the Formula 1 action directly to South African F1 enthusiasts, AZUR Monarch was dazzled by an afternoon of extravagant indulgence, fueled by a tantalizing Patrón Tequila experience and the thrill of the F1 race.
As the race began, the sounds of the crowd cheering filled the air, with visuals of the race appearing on large screens, and the inviting aroma of the classic Patrón margarita lingering throughout the venue.
The party was graced by Jozi’s who’s who of showbiz, among them reality TV personality such Nunurai Mudarikwa (‘The Mommy Club‘), Metro FM DJ Lamiez Holworthy, TV actress Mbalu Nkosi, former Miss South Africa Liesl Laurie and a slew of well-known SA influencers. The experience felt like being on a private yacht in Monaco, watching F1 race live with the vibrant Amapiano music playing in the background.
Bonolo Tamenti, customer marketing manager at Bacardi South Africa (Patrón, Bombay Sapphire, Grey Goose) expressed that the brand is planning to extend these spectacular, exclusive F1 watch parties to Durban and Cape Town for the upcoming F1 races.
“This is just the beginning of the partnership between F1 and Barcadi. It’s a slight teaser, we wanted to start you guys off with a little appetizer, and we want you to enjoy it,” Tamenti said.
