SASSA October 2026 payment date
The confirmed dates for the seven regular SASSA grant categories are:

SASSA has also scheduled Wednesday, October 7 as the fourth-day payment for applicable reviews and linked payments.
The eighth grant, the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R370 Grant, follows a separate monthly cycle. For October 2026, SRD payments are expected to be processed between October 25 and October 30, during the last week of the month.
Beneficiaries should check their individual SRD status because payments are processed in batches and the exact payment date can differ.
The October schedule follows the September cycle, when Older Persons Grants were paid from September 2, Disability Grants from September 3 and children’s grants from September 4.

SRD R370 grant follows a separate schedule
The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R370 grant follows a different payment process from the regular monthly grants.
October SRD payments are expected to be processed between October 25 and October 30.
Payments are staggered. The exact date depends on each beneficiary’s approval and verification status.
Beneficiaries should therefore check their individual SRD status instead of relying only on the general payment window.

Knowing the payment date does not mean the money is already available.
Beneficiaries should check their payment status before travelling to an ATM, retailer or collection point.

SRD beneficiaries can use the SASSA SRD portal to check their monthly status.

SASSA Gold Card warning for October payments
Beneficiaries who still have an old SASSA Gold Card should take note.
Postbank’s deadline for switching to the new Black Card was August 31, 2026. The old Gold Cards have since stopped working for accessing grant funds.

The grant itself is not affected by the card change. However, beneficiaries who have not completed the switch need to arrange a Black Card to access funds held in their Postbank account.
How to collect your SASSA grant safely
Once payment has been confirmed, beneficiaries do not need to rush out on the first day.
Grant money can remain in the account. Waiting a few days can also help beneficiaries avoid long queues at ATMs and retailers. SASSA has specifically reminded beneficiaries that they do not have to withdraw their money on the payment date.
Beneficiaries should remain alert when withdrawing cash.
Never give your card or PIN to a stranger who offers to help at an ATM. Leave the ATM area once the transaction is complete and report suspicious activity immediately.
