Bryson DeChambeau conquers Steyn City as LIV Golf confirms 2027 South African return

The inaugural LIV Golf South Africa didn’t just meet expectations; it shattered them. In a weekend defined by high-octane drama, Bryson DeChambeau emerged victorious, defeating Legion XIII Captain Jon Rahm in a thrilling first-hole playoff to secure his second consecutive individual title.

“What an honor it was to win in front of the most incredible fans. You guys made my first experience in South Africa unforgettable!,” DeChambeau shared moments after being announced as the 2027 SA title winner.

The victory was the climax of a week that saw over 100,000 spectators descend upon The Club at Steyn City, marking it as the highest-attended professional golf event in South African history.

President Cyril Ramaphosa, who spent Sunday afternoon on the course, noted that 40% of the fans were attending a golf event for the first time—a testament to the league’s modern appeal.

In exclusive coverage captured by our team on the ground, the President was seen in high spirits throughout the final round. Moving away from the formal galleries, Ramaphosa took time to greet and pose for photos with random attendees, showing a relaxed and softer side.

He was particularly engaging with the younger fans and children, pausing for several “selfie” moments that highlighted the accessible nature of his visit; as captured in our exclusive X thread below:

The “bigger, better, bolder” 2027 promise

The momentum is already being harnessed for the future. Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, alongside LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil, officially confirmed that the league will return to Steyn City from April 22 to 25, 2027.

“Hosting an event of this calibre not only showcases South Africa’s world-class sporting infrastructure, but also highlights the strength of our tourism, hospitality, and creative industries,” McKenzie said, adding: “This is about more than golf, it’s about economic opportunity, job creation and inspiring the next generation of South African athletes.”

“We are proud to welcome LIV Golf back to Steyn City in 2027 as we continue to position South Africa as a premier destination for international sport and entertainment.”

”If we can’t make this bigger, better, bolder next year, shame on us,” said O’Neil. Minister McKenzie echoed this ambition, revealing a goal of hitting 250,000 tickets for the 2027 edition. Early-bird tickets for 2027 went on sale immediately, with McKenzie taking to X to reassure fans after several sections sold out within hours.
