Castle Lite Unlocks, a must for hip hop fans, sneakerheads, and gaming geeks alike

The countdown has begun to 2 epic days of everything hip hop; from the hottest sneakers to buy right now to the most popular video games, you name it

After an epic edition with Chance The Rapper last year, the 2019 Castle Lite Unlocks is defying expectations by bringing hip hop fanatics 2 nights of fun filled entertainment and lifestyle extravaganza at the TicketPro Dome, Johannesburg later this month.

Packed with every aspect of the hip hop culture as we know it, from the energy charged musical performances to the progressive street culture displays, gaming, international fashion collaborations and power-packed panel discussions, the festival kicks off on Monday, June 17 with a special line up featuring the legendary US radio host, Sway Calloway, as the host of the poetry-packed Sway Cold Cyphers.

Rapper Meek Mill (US), South African rappers AKA, Cassper Nyovest, Youngsta CPT, Lay Lizzy, Nadia Nakai, Shane Eagle, Booty and Moozlie will render musical performances on the day.

Day two features a spectacular line-up led by US rapper, Post Malone. The rapper, who went from being relatively unknown to clinching 4 Grammy nominations with his sophomore album, Beerbongs & Bentleys, will perform alongside his American hommie, rapper Tula Yaweh.

Also on the bill on the night is South Africa’s favourite Riky Rick, Rouge and Nasty C.

Hip hop, sneakers and gaming; a match made in heaven

Hip hop and sneakers has had a symbiotic relationship for decades, and this gathering will remind us just how the two cultures can not exist without one another.

Showing how collaborations within hip-hop have expanded beyond music, this year organizers have put together unique partnerships with South African streetwear, GalxBoy and US based sneaker curator, DM Customs, who are putting together custom-made sneakers specially for the show.

And what with the growing influence of hip hop on gaming, with NBA players and some of the biggest names in the rap game such as Drake and Travis Scott outing themselves as Twitch’s Fortnite Battle Royale fans, and others such as Sean “Diddy” Combs investing in the esports initiative, PlayVS?

Then there’s Universal Music partnership with Luminosity Gaming for the launch of Gaming HipHop playlist, for gamers – clad in their adidas-Kanye West Yeezy’s sneakers to name but a few – to listen to while they play. All these and more will form part of the two-day programme.

“Our consumers are at the center of our innovation, and we are honored to be able to solidly contribute to the Hip Hop culture. Through strategic efforts, we have recognized the value and growth that the brand has gone through with and within this dynamic culture,” said Castle Lite brand director, Silke Bucker.
