South Africa faces a mixed weekend weather forecast, with rain and strong winds affecting parts of the southern coastline while much of the interior remains dry.

Cape coast braces for rain and strong winds
The Western Cape will remain cloudy and cool over the weekend, with morning fog along the south coast.
Isolated showers could develop across the province, with rain chances at around 30% inland and rising to 60% along the south coast and Garden Route.
The Eastern Cape will start partly cloudy and warm before cloud builds along the southern coast. Isolated showers will spread as south-westerly winds strengthen.
The conditions follow a run of severe weather in the region. Cape Town and the Eastern Cape have already experienced an orange level five weather warning this year, while Western Cape schools were shut during an earlier level eight storm.
Fire danger rises in the Northern Cape
A Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging interior winds covers parts of the Karoo and Namakwa.
Strong crosswinds could pose a hazard to high-sided vehicles, particularly on exposed routes.
The Northern Cape also faces extremely high fire danger in the Tsantsabane, Kgatelopele and Siyancuma municipalities. Elsewhere in the province, warm and partly cloudy conditions will dominate.
KwaZulu-Natal coast faces wind and wave warning
KwaZulu-Natal should see a mostly fine and warm Saturday, but a Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging wind and waves covers the coast from Port Shepstone to Richards Bay.
Rough seas could create dangerous conditions for small craft and harbour activity. Winds will turn north-easterly and become strong at times.
Very cold conditions could develop further south, particularly over the Sarah Baartman district.
Interior provinces stay dry and mild
Gauteng, the Free State and North West can expect a largely dry and fine weekend, with temperatures ranging from cool to warm.
Mpumalanga and Limpopo will see patchy morning fog and partly cloudy skies, while warmer conditions will continue in the Lowveld.
Sunday weather outlook and the week ahead
The Sunday weather forecast keeps the rain focus in the south.
The Eastern Cape and southern coast have a 60% chance of showers, while areas further west face a 30% chance. The interior provinces should remain predominantly dry.

Looking ahead to the new week, Cape Town should reach 16°/11° on both Monday and Tuesday.
Johannesburg and Pretoria climb to 24°/11° on Monday and 26°/12° on Tuesday.
Durban reaches 23°/17° on Monday before warming to 27°/19° on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, East London should warm gradually, from 18°/13° on Sunday to 21°/14° by Tuesday.
