The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced the payment dates for the January 2025 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grants.

Reminder from SASSA: key details for Covid-19 SRD payments
Grant payments were made to other primary recipients – children and older persons – earlier this month. Now SASSA has confirmed the dates for the rest of its beneficiaries.
In a reminder issued on Monday, SASSA reiterated that the upcoming payment is only for those who are scheduled to receive the Covid-19 SRD grants – valued at R370 – for the remaining month of January 2025.
- The processing of payments for clients who are approved for January 2025 will begin on Saturday, January 25, 2025, and continue until the following Friday, January 31. These payments are strictly for those who have been approved to receive the grant for January.
- Beneficiaries are strongly encouraged to check their status on the SRD website to find out the exact date when their payment will reflect in their bank accounts.
Payments limited to pre-approved beneficiaries
SASSA has made it clear that only those whose applications have been approved for January will receive payments. Beneficiaries who have not been approved for this month will not receive any payouts.
If your January 2025 SRD application was rejected, you can lodge an appeal immediately. However, Sassa encourages those rejected from the SRD grant to not immediately reapply. As SASSA spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi has previously indicated, if people reapply for the SRD grant after their first application was rejected, the system will automatically reject their second application.

Step 2: Navigate to the “Status Check” section of the website.
Step 3: Provide your South African identity number or passport (foreign nationals) and the cellphone number used during your application.
Step 4: A One-Time Pin (OTP) will be sent to your cellphone number.
Step 5: Enter the OTP on the website to proceed.
Once verified, you will be able to see your grant payment status and the expected payment date.
