How to play and claim: What the court ruling means for you
You can play and claim Lotto, Lotto Plus 1, and Lotto 5 Max exactly as normal.
The Pretoria High Court recently overturned Sizekhaya’s licence, but the court suspended its ruling for up to 12 months to prevent any lottery shutdown.
Sizekhaya Holdings remains the lawful operator for now.
This means all ticket purchases are valid, draws will proceed on schedule, and all winning payouts are legally guaranteed.
Tickets remain available at retailers, banking apps, or online as usual. Minor prizes are paid automatically or by shops, while major jackpots must be claimed at regional lottery offices.
The court overturned the licence because the Minister used an unauthorised “secret committee” to override initial bidding scores.
The Minister now has 6 months to fairly re-evaluate the bids. If a different operator is chosen, a smooth handover will happen during the remaining buffer period without interrupting the games.
