Mandela Month: Rookie USA donates 1000 masks and stationery to Afrika Tikkun

Kids only online retailer Rookie USA is known for its unwavering support of charities that provides everyday essentials to local children in need, and this week proved no different as the brand donated 1000 masks and 200 backpacks to Afrika Tikkun, in the spirit of Mandela Month.

With its focus on youth empowerment, Afrika Tikkun provides health, education, and social services and support to the members of its programme.

Due to the far-reaching impact of COVID-19 to not only the economy and the health system, but the threat it poses to the provision of such vital services, this donation by Rookie USA (South Africa) will no doubt come in handy.

Each backpack contained stationery and basic school supplies such as pencils, markers and notebooks. In addition to the backpacks, the company donated 1000 face masks that were custom produced based on two winning face mask designs from a Rookie USA competition that ran earlier this year.

“The relationship between Rookie USA and Afrika Tikkun has been built and maintained for quite some time. We hold each donation and the significance of it, close to our hearts. There is no better feeling than impacting young people’s lives,” the company noted in a statement.

The bulk donation was divided between two facilities that fall under Afrika Tikkun’s umbrella, one being the Dieploot Centre – known as ‘Wings of Life’ and the other being the ‘Phuthaditjaba Centre’ in Alexandra

As a company whose products appeal mostly to the South African youth market, Rookie USA is delighted for the opportunity to assist and work with communities it operates in, and most importantly “to be part of Afrika Tikkun’s initiatives”.

Established by Haddad Brands in 2011, Rookie USA opened its first exclusive store in Mumbai at Oberoi Mall, Mumbai and is now spread across the globe with firm bases in Asia, Europe and South Africa.

The multi-brand retail venture specialises in top global brands, among them Converse, Nike Kids, Levi’s, Jordan and Hurley & Hummel, making it a premium shopping destination for kids aged 4-12 years.
