In case you’ve wondered who the actual owner of the famed Don Billiato tequila really is, we’ve got an answer for you. Well, sort of.

In this article, we’ve put together a snapshot of trending tweets from the recent Makro festive catalogue launch event, which included NOWinSA’s very own most-engaged tweet (as shown below), which not only anchored the discussions around this, but was also flagged by Twitter under its ‘Funny Tweets’ radar, an aggregation of the absolute best and ‘funniest tweets of the day’ that experts and fans tend to talk most about.

Don Billiato is the premium tequila drink that was launched by Cassper Nyovest in 2021 and has become a symbol of toast to ‘living well’ among Gen Zers. The question that has been the bone of contention for a while now has been whether or not is rapper Cassper Nyovest truly – we mean truly – the owner of this much-loved South African alcoholic brand?

While we also want to commend Makro for capitalizing on the ongoing beef between SA leading podcaster MacG and Cassper by bringing them together under one roof to celebrate their partnership with them, in a seemingly calculated moved which likewise has caused quite a stir on the social media, we also took note of how the rapper’s legions of fans couldn’t help but celebrate the fact that the mystery – surrounding Don Billiato’s actual owner/s – has finally been put to rest; well, kind of.

This comes as Makro officially recognised on the night, the ‘Skelm‘ hitmaker as the owner of Don Billiato, further stating that the decision to have the two entertainers as part of their festive season offering among their extensive list of beverage suppliers was largely informed by their ongoing commitment to support black local manufacturers entering the market.

As many would remember, the pair’s beef was heightened when Mac G, who partly owns Grandeur Gin with his YouTuber girlfriend Naledi Monamodi, made some remarks over Cassper’s questionable ownership of the brand during a previous episode of the ‘Postcast and Chill With MacG‘.

Meanwhile, the launch was attended by the who’s of Mzansi showbiz and media, with respected sports commentator Andile Ncube as the master of ceremonies. Among the surprise announcements on the night was the unveiling of SA’s newest wibe collection by Tendai ‘The Beast’ Mtawarira, aptly named The Beast, which will also be in all the Makro stores country-wide.

What People Say: Makro X MacG, Cassper, Beast partnerships

While some Twitterazzis lauded the pair for their ability to separate their professional lives and personal squabbles, others lamented their “indistinguishable packaging”, while another user questioned if they “really owned these brands, or they’re just faces.”

Below is a snapshot of mixed reactions from fans and experts.
