‘The Unfamiliar’ finally debuts in South Africa on DStv, iTunes & Google Play

Following box office success in the US, UK and Vietnam, British horror hit movie 'The Unfamiliar' continues to defy the odds amid a global pandemic and officially makes its streaming debut in South Africa on Friday (October 28) on DSTV Box Office, iTunes and Google Play.

As coronavirus continues to push the cinema and eventing world to the brink with indefinite delays and several cancelations, the film’s emminent release in South Africa comes shortly after Dark Matter Studios signed a major South American cinema distribution deal – which saw the movie also officially selected as part of Apple’s Halloween promotion in the USA.

“Distributing a film worldwide during COVID has challenged us far beyond our comfort zone, yet we have, with the support of a great team and motivated by a film we all believe in, risen to the challenge,” said South African-born film producer Llewelynn Greeff.

The Unfamiliar‘ tells the story of a British Army doctor (Jemima West) who comes back from war, thinking she has PTSD, only to discover that there are malevolent spirits present in her home, making the life that she knew unfamiliar.

Renowned South African filmmaker, Henk Pretorius, known for film hits ‘Leading Lady‘, ‘Bakgat and Fanie Fourie’s Lobola‘, directed ‘The Unfamiliar‘ and co-wrote the screenplay with Jennifer Nicole Stang.

Co-produced by British filmmaker Barend Kruger, the film stars Jemima West (‘Indian Summers’, ‘The Mortal Instruments’) and Christopher Dane (‘Being Sold’) in the lead roles.
