Eskom employee accused of R1m fraud freed On R5 000 bail

Standerton – Eskom Procurement Officer 43-year-old Zandile Rosemary Ngcobo – accused of fraud totalling close to a R1 million – has been released on R5 000 bail by the Standerton Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga.

Ngcobo, who is stationed at Tutuka Power Station, was granted bail on Wednesday, (10 May 2023).

She was arrested by the Hawks Middelburg-based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team and Eskom Investigators for fraud, theft, and money laundering.

Ngcobo allegedly colluded with a service provider, Umnandi Services, to steal from her employer, Eskom.

The accused allegedly submitted fraudulent documents in which prices for services rendered were massively inflated from R60 000 to R 939 000.

When the matter came to light, Ngcobo was arrested.

Her fraud case was adjourned and moved to Middelburg Specialised Commercial Crime Court.

Investigations into the theft of money from Eskom through inflated invoices continue and authorities have warned more persons could be arrested.
