Girls night out alert! ‘Sex And The City’ creator brings her iconic world to SA

Iconic author and creator of 'Sex And The City' Candace Bushnell is visiting South Africa later this month with her acclaimed one-woman show 'True Tales of Sex, Success and Sex in the City' for four special performance in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Candice Bushnell, creator of the iconic ‘Sex and The City‘ television franchise and its spinoff ‘And Just Like That’ (now on M-Net) is set to tour South Africa later this month with her thought-provoking one-woman show ‘True Tales of Sex, Success and Sex And The City‘ for four special performances in both Johannesburg and Cape Town.

From her arrival in New York City alone with $20 in her pocket, to working her way up the ladder, to secrets behind the creation of ‘Sex And The City’ and finding herself single again in her 50’s, show will provide fans of the Emmy award-winning series with raw and riveting stories behind-the-scenes stories that inspired the creation of behind the series that captivated masses around the world.

“From the pages of her best-selling books to the legendary TV series Sex and the City, Candace Bushnell shares her remarkable philosophy of love, empowerment, and the pursuit of success, all while wearing her Manolos and enjoying a Cosmopolitan cocktail,” reads a media statement from the organisers.

Showing the ups and downs that make us humans as Bushnell best puts it, it plays for four shows only on September 23 and 30 at Montecasino’s Teatro (Johannesburg) and Artscape Opera House in Cape Town respectively.

There’ll be two shows playing on each venue on the day; at 3pm and 8pm. Tickets cost between R300 and R600 at Ticketmaster.

Candace Bushnell’s stellar achievements

Bushnell is the author of the critically acclaimed, international best-selling novel, ‘Sex and the City‘. Published in 1996, the book was the basis for the HBO hit series of the same name and two blockbuster movies. The series has bagged 54 Emmy nominations in total, winning seven of them.

The former New York Observer columnist captured the world’s attention with ‘Sex and the City‘ by laying bare the private lives of New York City’s rich and famous to expose true contemporary stories of sex, love and relationships.

The book introduced the fans to many popular phrases, among them ‘modelizers’, ‘toxic bachelors’ and the women who are looking for Mr. Big as they glide in and out of a star-studded social scene.

Author of ten successful books, her other novels, ‘Four Blondes‘ (2000), ‘Trading Up‘ (2003), ‘One Fifth Avenue‘ (2008), ‘The Carrie Diaries‘ (2010), ‘Summer and the City(2013) and the prequel ‘Is There Still Sex in the City‘ (2019) gave readers extended uncensored look into the mating rituals of the Hollywood elite.

Her 2005 memoir ‘Lipstick Jungle‘ (2005), which became a popular television series on NBC, explores the paradigm of a new breed of career woman facing modern challenges and choices.

Bushnell’s stellar literary work saw her named the winner of the 2006 Matrix Award for books, and a Albert Einstein Spirit of Achievement Award among others.
