OVER 40 film entries were received from aspirant South African film creatives under the theme “The City Superhero”. The top 10 will go on to compete for the grand prize of R50 000 which will be announced at the sixth edition of the prestigious Bokeh South African International Lifestyle and Fashion Film Festival in July.

Events highlights
- The Johannesburg event took place at The Melrose Gallery in Melrose Arch against the backdrop of the current exhibition; “Out of the Furnace” by Willie Bester and Wolf Werdigier. Mercedes Benz, as the headline sponsor took centre stage, and had on display the stunning new Mercedes-Benz CLS 53 Copper Edition. Also featured was a live shoot of body art painted models by photographer Steve Casting in partnership with Fujifilm.
- The Durban edition, which took place took place at the Gateway Shopping Centre’s IBV International Bank Vaults gave guests a first look at eight of the latest Mercedes-Benz classics, ranging from the S600 to the new A-Class (winner of the 2019 Autotrader South African Car of the Year) and if course, the biggest highlightof the day, the 1938 200V Sports Roadster, which is believed to be the only one remaining in the world.
- The best bressed male and female for the Joburg edition were awarded to Peta Eggierth-Symes and ‘Hashtag’ presenter Jarred Doyle (below right), while Durbanites, Genna-Wae Webster (from fashion label Wae West), and Lunga Magigaba came out top. Both the Joburg and Durban best dressed won hampers including Havaianas, MAC. Other major prizes include Sebastian Professional products, as well as flights, accommodation and Mercedes-Benz vehicles for the week for the July finale.
The Bokeh has over the past six years been at the forefront of honouring and assisting young creatives and emerging film talent. Students and graduates are encouraged to form collaborative, local teams and produce short films with assistance from Bokeh.
Presented in partnership with the Gauteng Film Commission, the initiative provides filming equipments funding and mentoring among other things to all participating student teams.
The Bokeh Gala event will take place from July 9 to 18, 2019 in both Johannesburg and Cape Town. The judges, talk line-ups, presentations, and locations will be announced at a press event in Cape Town in June.
