AfricaCom 2024: French companies ready to take Africa’s digital landscape to greater heights

This year, the France Pavilion will bring together several leading French technology companies under roof in a move that will propel the promising African digital landscape to the next level, positioning the continent as a global player.

As the African continent gears up for a digital revolution ahead of the upcoming AfricaCom 2024, leading French companies are taking advantage of this unique opportunity by ensuring they play their part in shaping the continent technological future.

In this year’s edition of AfricaCom, slated to take place from November 11 to 14 at the Cape Town, Business France will showcase its biggest French telco expertise yet, gathering over 15,000 visitors and 400 exhibitors from around the world.

Across three days (November 12 to 14), the France Pavilion will bring together several leading French technology companies under roof. This includes the likes of Athesi, EasyBroadcast, Ekt, Enesys, Enreach, Famoco, GateWatcher, Idea Optical, ITDevelopment, Kapptivate, Luxcarta, Perfwave, Splio, Summa Networks, Esokia and Lillybelle and many more.

These companies will bring their expertise in telecommunications, digital infrastructure, and cybersecurity, thus reinforcing France’s position as a key partner in Africa’s technological development.

South Africa: A Strategic Market for Innovation

With 4G coverage reaching 98% and rapid 5G deployment, South Africa is establishing itself as the digital hub of the continent. Continuing to show unprecedented growth in African telecommunications, the country attracts significant investments in telecoms, with nearly €1.8 billion invested in 2023, and positions itself as a key player thanks to its 69 data centers and 9 submarine cables.

Likewise, Africa’s digital landscape is evolving rapidly, with new technologies like 5G set to play a transformative role in various sectors; most recently MTN and Vodacom outlined plans to accelerate 5G development in southern African countries like Botswana, Lesotho through increased utilisation of 5G technologies in the coming years. Furthermore, MTN 5G coverage in South Africa alone has significantly increased to 44%, compared with 35% at the start of the year.

Opportunities to Strengthen International Collaborations

AfricaCom 2024 represents a unique opportunity for French companies to forge strategic
partnerships with local players like Vodacom, MTN, and Telkom, all which have played a significant role in Africa’s evolving digital lanscape.
