Register today for world’s biggest breast cancer walkathon

Avon Justine South Africa has officially opened registrations for the 16th iThemba Walkathon, which will once again be held virtually due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions. Here's how you can register today and be the first to know and get personalised information and updates about the walk in your local neighbourhood, along with a limited-edition collector’s swag bag.

The Avon Justine South Africa team confirmed during a virtual media launch event on Wednesday ( June 23), the date and ticket pricing for the forthcoming iThemba Walkathon, which will again feature decentralised walks, encouraging participants to walk in small groups in their local neighbourhood across the country.

The announcement comes just a week after the country was moved back to level 3 lockdown, with discussions underway to possibility introduce further restrictions – specially for Gauteng as the third Covid-19 wave hits.

“The third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic is upon us, and we need to painstakingly heed the health and safety protocols aimed at curbing the further transmission of the virus,” said Mafahle Mareletse, MD of Avon Justine Turkey, Middle East & Africa.

It is equally important that we should also keep the momentum in the fight against breast cancer by supporting frontline organisations and people infected and affected by breast cancer. This year we’re inviting all iThemba Walkers to walk with a purpose, to join the crusade against breast cancer, to give from the heart and take some time to walk with us and help us raise funds for a good cause.”

This will be the second time the iThemba Walkathon is held virtually after it was first introduced in April 2020, just a month after the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the novel coronavirus outbreak a global pandemic.

All the iThemba Walkathon activity from across the country will be shared on the official iThemba Walkathon social media platforms.

The second edition will be held on Sunday, October 3 and participants from across the country are invited to register for the event to play their part in the worldwide crusade against breast cancer.

This means that registered participants can join the iThemba Walkathon wherever they are, as long as they comply with health and safety protocols.

Avon Justine staff and select influencers in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Polokwane will also join the walk from the respective CANSA offices in the various regions.

Numbers for each of these regional walks will be kept in line with the current Covid-19 regulations. All the Walkathon activity from across the country will be shared on the official iThemba Walkathon social media platforms including, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

Radio and TV host Bujy Bikwa is among celebrities walking again this year.
