Top 3 streaming services in South Africa, Q1 2021

Netflix has retained its position as the number one streaming service in South Africa right now with 34% of the market share, according to JustWatch's results for the first quarter (Q1) of 2021.

It is followed by Showmax which holds a 1% lead over Prime Video with the former sitting at 25% and the latter at 24%. That gain impacted Prime Video, which lost 2% through the quarter alone.

In total, the top 3 best streamers make up 83% of the market.

Just a little over a year after debuting on November 1, 2019,  ad-free AppleTV+ appears to be catching up at fourth position with 4%, followed by specialist film streaming platform Mubi with 3%.

JustWatch is an international streaming guide that helps over 20 million users per month to find something great to watch on Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and more across 46 countries.
