While you can choose to dress to impress by visiting In Vogue Boutique (Level 2 opposite Truworths), or with the new season’s must-have items at Nicci Boutiques – not to forget a quick stop at fashion accessory favourite Lovisa’s new store opposite Foschini, it’s mainly these two major attractions that took our fancy here at NOWinSA; a must see dark comedy ‘Breaking News in Yuba County‘ at Cinema Nouveau and Karen Peterson’s new book ‘Coming Out, Coming Home’ at Exclusive Books.
‘Breaking News in Yuba County‘
Inspired by the small California county, this maverlously dark and humorous dissection of America’s fixation on fame, notoriety, and victimhood, is written by Amanda Idoko, a young Bronx-born screenwriter, and daughter of Nigerian immigrants, and visionary director Tate Taylor. It stars Allison Janney, Mila Kunis, and Awkwafina.
The movie, which premiered in select theaters on February 12, follows Sue Buttons (Allison Janney), an underappreciated suburban wife, who gets a taste of being a local celebrity as she embarks on a search to find her missing husband.
According to an official synopsis, she quickly finds herself in over her head, dodging cops, criminals and local reporters all aiming to uncover the truth. After being overlooked for so long, Sue goes to exaggerated lengths to prolong her “15 minutes of fame” and keep the truth from coming out.
‘Coming Out Coming Home‘
This brand new meimor by the Johannesburg-based Karen Petersen is now selling at Exclusive Books.
This is her debut as a writer and the must-read memoir covers her life and the story of how after starting a church in KwaZulu-Natal, struggled to fit into the role of a pastor’s wife.
Hell broke loose when Petersen, who now coaches women who find themselves trapped in life, fell in love with a woman. “Through my natural optimism I came out of the dark tunnels to find reconciliation, contentment and peace,” she says about her journey.
Also available on Amazon, this a great read – with a 3.8/5 rating on goodbooks – and a good idea for a gift.
