Chinese phone giant Tecno Mobile recently launched its state-of-the-art Camon 17P smartphone in South Africa at a time when the Samsung A51 (as part of the popular youth-focused A-Series flagship) and Redmi Note 9 Pro have become fan favourites.
Given that in 2020, Tecno Mobile knocked down market leaders Samsung and Apple to claim the number one spot as Africa’s most popular smartphone, the big question is, how will it compare with its rivals; Samsung A51 and Redmi Note 9 Pro?
The first point is that all three brands vary in terms of design, features, and functionality.
While Tecno has become consumers’ go-to mid-range smartphone, thanks to its artistically appealing design and contemporary cutting-edge camera technology (as seen with the groundbreaking 48MP selfie camera Camon 17 Pro) , Samsung and Redmi on the other hand have become popular among price-conscious consumers.
Camon 17P camera vs Samsung A51 & Remi Note9 Pro
Twenty-first Century consumers are extremely savvy when it comes to understanding the technology and features that go into each smartphone model. Camera capabilities and the supporting software are high on their priority list. In this respect, the Camon 17P and Redmi Note 9 Pro both come with 16MP front cameras, as opposed to the Samsung A51’s standard selfie camera at a whopping 32MP.
Like its rivals, Tecno has always paid special attention to outstanding camera features, since selfies have become such an important part of millennial and GenZ users’ online identities. True to form, when it comes to the rear camera, Camon 17P and Redmi Note 9 Pro lead the pack as they are both equipped with 64MP rear ultra-quad camera, while the Samsung A51 lags behind at 48MP.
Another notable feature for the Camon 17P is its trademark TAIVOS technology, which takes incredibly clear visuals even in low-light. Not only that, TAIVOS is also king when it comes to blurring out background clutter.

Powerful cameras need long-lasting battery and storage space, likewise Camon 17P comes top with 128G ROM + 6GB RAM, as do the Samsung A51 and the Redmi Note 9 Pro.
In terms of battery life, Redmi Note 9 Pro leads the race with a slightly bigger battery of 5020mAh, with a provision for up to 30-Watt super-fast charger, while Camon 17P boasts 18W with a 5000mAh battery. However Samsung A51 has a smaller 4500mAh battery with a 15W.
