Brutal Fruit launches woman-centric pop up space, SheBeen in Soweto

Brutal Fruit announces the launch of SheBeen, an elegant, woman-centric pop up space at Rockafella in Soweto on Tuesday in honour of Woman's Month.

After three months of dedicated renovations, Brutal Fruit has transformed the Rockafella in Soweto into an elegant and female-centric space, setting the stage for an unparalleled Woman’s Day eve pop up experience where women can genuinely feel celebrated and empowered.

Taking place from 10am on Tuesday, August 8 at corner Masiane & Mmakau street in Molapo, Soweto, SheBeen was informed by a research conducted between January 2020 and August 2022 which revealed that “women crave spaces where they can revel in their femininity as women and want brands to actively prioritise their needs”, organisers said in a statement.

The venue is a space where women and those who identify as such can enjoy a meaningful, girls night out with their friends and loved ones. “The SheBeen venue is a symbol of empowerment and belonging, and its overarching goal is to establish a network of venues that prioritise women’s needs,” organisers said. This will be achieved through a Shebeen Management and Compliance Programme that will be incorporated into SAB’s existing Responsible Trader Programme.

Designed during the early stage of Covid-19 to help mitigate airborne transmission of the virus (amid the ban of alcohol sales in SA at the time), and essentially address the issue of harmful alcohol consumption going forward, venues that meet specific criteria will under the programme receive endorsements, thus empowering women to make informed choices when planning their outings.
