KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa — a man identified as Sbusiso Lawrence Ntaka is currently trending on X (formerly Twitter) in South Africa after allegedly killing his girlfriend and sharing a video of the incident – with a bloodied face — on social media.

Hot on the heels of Christ Brown’s abuse protest ban by Women For Change NPO fighting GBV in South Africa, the graphic content has once again sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for urgent action to address the ongoing crisis of gender-based violence (GBV) in the country.

Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, but the video allegedly shows the lifeless body of the victim, and Ntaka can reportedly be heard confessing to the crime. The motive behind the alleged murder is currently unknown, but social media posts suggest that infidelity may have played a role.

Ntaka found deceased after allegedly hanging himself

In another tragic turn of events, Ntaka was later found deceased. His body was discovered hanging from a tree in an area some distance from where he allegedly dumped the body of the 25-year-old victim. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

Anger erupts across South Africa after the gruesome video killing

The incident has ignited a firestorm on X, with users expressing their horror and disgust at the crime. Many are demanding justice for the victim and calling for greater efforts to combat GBV in South Africa.

As with the X posts below, users are sharing messages of support and condolences for the victim’s family and friends, while also expressing frustration at the lack of progress in addressing the root causes of violence against women.

This tragic event serves as a grim reminder of the pervasive issue of violence against women in South Africa. The country has one of the highest rates of femicide in the world, and despite numerous campaigns and initiatives, the problem persists.

The sharing of the video on social media has further amplified the trauma and sparked debate about the role of technology in perpetuating violence. Many are calling for stricter regulations and greater accountability from social media platforms to prevent the spread of such harmful content.
