JOHANNESBURG – South African police have arrested Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, a British citizen wanted for the murder of his wife and two young daughters in the United Kingdom.

The arrest came within hours of Interpol issuing a Red Notice for the 45-year-old fugitive. SAPS members tracked him to a property in Kensington, Johannesburg, on Friday evening.

Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, SAPS national spokesperson, addressed the media at the scene. She confirmed the multidisciplinary team included the SAPS Interpol National Central Bureau, Crime Intelligence, and the Gauteng Organised Crime Investigation Unit.

“A Red Notice was only issued yesterday and within a matter of hours our multidisciplinary team has managed to track this suspect to Kensington in Johannesburg,” Mathe said.

Tshuma fled the UK on Saturday, July 4, travelling from Heathrow Airport on a British passport. The bodies of his wife, Nothabo Zandile Tshuma, 42, and daughters Natalie, 15, and Nala, 5, were discovered at the family home in Great Denham, Bedfordshire, on Monday.

“South Africa is not a hideout for fugitives”

Mathe issued a direct warning to international criminals.

“South Africa is not a hideout for fugitives. If you commit serious crimes anywhere in the world and think you can evade justice by fleeing to South Africa, you are mistaken. We will trace you, we will find you and we will arrest you.”
