Crown Gospel Music Awards 2021 – winners announced (updated)

The 14th annual Crown Gospel Awards ceremony's live recording lived up to expectations as the who's who of the South African gospel industry dazzled in high-end fashion, with multi award-winning musician Khaya Mthethwa bringing as the host, the much-needed poise and refined mastery of all things gospel to the stage, to announce all the deserving winners for 2021 (as seen below).

Originally published on November 16, this article has since been updated (on Wednesday, December 1), to include outstading winners for two of the awards main categories; for Best Gospel Artist Song of the Year, which went go Canaan Nyathi, while Sibongukwanda “Jumbo” Nyangiwe took home the crown for the Best Gospel Song award for ‘Wena Nkosi Uyazi‘, as both decided by members of the public. 

The awards ceremony, which aired on SABC2 on Sunday, November 28, 2021 was recorded mid November, and recognising the best crop of the gospel industry. 

Below is the winners’ list for the Crown Gospel Music Awards 2021, which saw gospel music extraordinaire, Takie Ndou, take home one of the main awards of the night for Best Album (as well as gong for Best Gospel Song Writer), while Ayanda Ntanzi and Thobekile Mkhwanazi were named best male and female artist respectively.

Takie Ndou took two main awards on the night: Best Album and Best Gospel Song Writer.

  • Best Gospel Group: Umlazi Gospel Choir
  • Best Traditional Gospel: Godfrey Mahlangu (Lentswe)
  • Best Gospel Accapella: Abakhethwa Gospel Singers

  • Best Gospel Community Radio: Abraham Shiyane: (Kuyenzeka show on Zibonele FM)
  • Best Amazion: Fellowship of God Ministries (Surely Goodness and Mercy)
  • Best Gospel Commercial/Radio Show: Brown Mosiapoa (Rorisang show on Motsweding FM)

Gospel Artist and Gospel Song of the Year winners (announced on Sunday, November 28)

  • Best Gospel Artist of the Year: Cannaan Nyathi

  • Best Gospel Song: Wena Nkosi Uyazi
Sibongukwanda “Jumbo” Nyangiwe  received the top honour for Song of the Year, for Wena Nkosi Uyazi!
