June payouts confirmed as Postbank migration deadline looms
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed the June 2026 payment dates, offering relief to millions of beneficiaries ahead of the winter peak.
Payments will roll out during the first week of June under SASSA’s rolling payment system, designed to reduce pressure on ATMs, retailers, and pay points nationwide.
But this cycle carries added urgency.
It also marks one of the final warnings for beneficiaries still using the old SASSA gold cards, as the Postbank migration clock ticks down toward the August 31, 2026 deadline.
The transition comes after significant legal battles and shifting timelines, which initially began when the SASSA payment crisis threatened millions of grants during the initial contract expiry disputes.
This time, officials have made it clear: the deadline will not shift again.
Confirmed SASSA June 2026 payment schedule
The standard grant cycle remains unchanged, with payments concentrated in the first week of June.
| Grant Type | Payment Date |
|---|---|
| Older Persons Grant and War Veterans | Tuesday, June 2, 2026 |
| Disability Grant | Wednesday, June 3, 2026 |
| Child Support and other grants (Grant-in-Aid, Foster Child, Care Dependency) | Thursday, June 4, 2026 |
| SRD R370 Grant | Staggered payments later in June |
SASSA has also reminded beneficiaries that funds remain in accounts after payment and do not need to be withdrawn immediately.
SRD R370 grant runs on a separate payment cycle
The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R370 grant does not follow the main grant schedule.
Instead, SASSA processes applications in phases after monthly verification checks against government and banking databases.
This means approved beneficiaries receive payments in batches rather than on a single fixed date.

Postbank migration enters final enforcement phase
The June payout cycle coincides with intensified pressure on beneficiaries still using SASSA gold cards.
Following legal disputes over the Master Services Agreement (MSA), the Pretoria High Court dismissed Postbank’s urgent bid to block termination. Government later approved a short-term extension to stabilise the transition process.
That grace period is now closing.
Postbank has confirmed that all remaining gold card users must migrate to the new black card system before August 31, 2026, with no further extensions expected.
“Postbank is urging beneficiaries to migrate to the Postbank Black Card before the August 31, 2026 deadline.”

Digital services expand as office queues grow
SASSA is pushing more beneficiaries toward digital services during the June rollout period to reduce congestion at local offices.
Through its online systems, users can update details, submit appeals, and manage banking changes without visiting a branch.
Beneficiaries are urged to:
- Confirm their exact payment date before visiting retailers
- Respond immediately to SMS verification requests
- Replace gold cards at authorised Postbank or Post Office outlets before the deadline
- Keep PIN details secure and avoid third-party handling
If payments do not reflect on the expected date, SASSA advises allowing up to 24 hours for clearance before escalating.
