The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed its September 2026 payment dates, giving beneficiaries a clear picture of when their grants are due, including those still waiting to complete their switch to the Postbank Black Card.
Payments start with the Older Persons Grant on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
SASSA will then roll out the remaining grants in stages throughout the month as part of its staggered payment system for the 2026/27 financial year.

Here are the confirmed SASSA grant payment dates for September 2026:
- Older Persons Grant: Wednesday, September 2
- War Veterans Grant: Wednesday, September 2
- Disability Grant: Thursday, September 3
- Child Support Grant: Friday, September 4
- Foster Child Grant: Friday, September 4
- Care Dependency Grant: Friday, September 4
- Grant-in-Aid: Friday, September 4
- Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R370 Grant: Staggered rolling dates, typically mid-to-late September
SASSA staggers grant payments to help the National Payment System process transactions smoothly.
The agency generally avoids paying on the first day of the month or on a Monday where possible, while also taking weekends and public holidays into account.
How much will SASSA grants pay in September?
Grant values increased in April 2026 following the national Budget.
The Older Persons, Disability and Care Dependency grants now pay R2,400 a month, rising to R2,420 for beneficiaries over 75. The War Veterans Grant pays R2,420.
The Child Support Grant and Grant-in-Aid both pay R580, while the Foster Child Grant increased from R1,250 to R1,295.
The R370 SRD grant remains at its current value and has been extended to March 2027.
What about the SRD grant and flagged beneficiaries?
SRD payments do not follow the same three-day cycle as the permanent grants.
Beneficiaries should therefore check their status through SASSA’s official channels instead of relying on payment dates shared on social media.
Beneficiaries flagged for a grant review should also monitor SASSA communication closely.
Those under review have recently been paid on a fourth payment day after the standard cycle.
SASSA issued an urgent call in late July for flagged beneficiaries to have their documents ready ahead of payment cycles to avoid further delays.
Gold Card holders should also take note
Beneficiaries still using the old SASSA Gold Card need to complete their switch to the Postbank Black Card before payments continue into September.
