SASSA will process the second batch of SRD R370 grant payments on April 29 and 30. Millions of beneficiaries expect their funds during this window, but many will still face delays due to incorrect or outdated banking details.
SASSA verifies every SRD payment before release. The agency checks identity, income status, and banking details each month. Any mismatch can delay your payment or push it into a later batch.
Recent verification pressure, as SASSA tightens its eLife checks across the system, also affects SRD recipients when their data does not align.
Why SRD payments arrive in batches
SASSA splits SRD payments into batches to manage volume and protect the banking system. The agency processes millions of payments every month, so it staggers releases to prevent system overload.
This approach:
- reduces congestion at ATMs and retailers
- protects bank processing systems
- allows time for verification checks
If your payment falls into the second batch, you must ensure your details pass verification before release.
Incorrect banking details cause the biggest delays
SASSA rejects payments when banking details do not match the beneficiary’s identity. The agency does not allow payments into another person’s account.
Common issues include:
- bank account not registered in your name
- incorrect account numbers
- mismatched ID and banking details
- inactive or closed accounts
Even small errors can delay payment for days or weeks.
How to update your SRD banking details
SASSA requires beneficiaries to update banking details through its official system. The agency verifies all changes before using them for payment.
Update your banking details through the official SRD banking details update portal to ensure your payment processes without delays.
Follow these steps
- Enter your South African ID number
- Receive the OTP sent to your registered mobile number
- Enter the OTP and access your profile
- Update your banking details carefully
- Submit and wait for verification
SASSA will only use updated details for future payments after successful verification.
Make sure your phone number is correct
SASSA links your SRD profile to your registered mobile number. The agency sends OTPs and payment notifications to that number.
NOTE: If your contact number has changed, update your details first through the SRD contact update portal to ensure SASSA can reach you for verification and payment notifications.
SASSA will not process payments to a number registered in someone else’s name.
Verification still applies to SRD beneficiaries
SASSA runs monthly checks on all SRD applications. The agency verifies:
- income status
- employment records
- identity details
If your status shows “approved” without a payment date, your application still sits in the verification queue.
You must wait until the system assigns a payment date.
What to do if your SRD payment is delayed
Do not panic if your payment does not reflect immediately. Banks often take 2–3 working days to process deposits after SASSA releases funds.
If delays continue:
- check your status on the SRD portal
- confirm your banking details
- verify your contact information
If SASSA declines your application, submit an appeal through the official SRD appeals portal for reconsideration.
