The Free State is set to play host to its first-ever Vuka Arts Free State Creative Summit with some of the country’s most talented and visionary artists will come together to showcase their rare skills and foster innovate practice in the cultural and creative arts.
Whether you’re an artist yourself or just looking for inspiration from some of South Africa’s captivating creative minds, there’ll be something for everyone at this highly interactive event.
“We are thrilled to bring the best and brightest from across the Free State for this momentous occasion, Creatives Summit will serve as a platform for artists to shine, collaborate and inspire one another, ultimately elevating the arts scene in our region to new heights,” said Vusani Sihlangu, creative director of the summit and a well-known musician, better known as Presss by throngs of music-loving South Africans.
With a collaborative vision geared towards fostering knowledge sharing, this unique gathering will feature representatives from the realms of dance, visual arts,music,fashion and film, showcasing the diverse and vibrant creative tapestry of the Free State.
Some of the creative industry’s biggest role players coming to share their valuable insights and expertise include actor Khotso Nkgatho, best known as Mopheme; scriptwriter and ‘The River‘ producer Percy Vilakazi; renowned choreographer and Idols SA judge, Somizi Mhlongo; revered Free State fashion designer Candy Smit, fashion entrepreneur Refiloe Mocwa and director Refiloe Ramogase.
Also on the bill is renowned South African actor Seputla Sebogodi, Safta-winning actress Krijay Govender, vocalist and lyricist Dudu Makhoba, Skeem Saam actor Sam Shale, DJ Ganyani, and Presss, who himself has been in the music industry for three decades and was thrust into the limelight after winning the first season of Coca Cola Pop Stars in 2002.
Sunday will see the likes of Sir Trill, 2Point1, Legoody, Fantas, Troy M and many more entertain the masses to close off the weekend long event in style.
Not only that; the Creatives Summit promises to be a transformative experience with six participants set to undergo a mentoring program in their chosen careers for six months “so they can gain valuable exposure and contribute to the cultural enrichment of the Free State,” organisers said.
